Match Report

Where to start with this one..........

FTCC win would secure our position in Division B after being promoted, Hoveringham win gives them a great chance to avoid relegation. A lot riding on this game for both sides.

Firstly, a massive thank you to Tom Reilly for replacing the injured Drinkwater at the last minute, brilliant mate.

The Fisko wicket looked good as ever, but the rain forecast 39 overs agreed. FTCC won the toss and bowled first.

A fantastic start from Omar and Joe Cope restricted Hoveringham to 22 from 7, then Copey getting the breakthrough trapping the opener LBW. Copey eventually finishing with 1 for 30 off 10, well bowled lad.

Andy Laughton next into the attack with an outstanding spell, his third over, a maiden, getting the batsman to play and miss 6 times. 6 overs for 25 runs, unlucky not to get a wicket.

Hoveringham built a steady partnership to 113 off 26, fifties for their opener and number 3. With 13 overs to go, bowlers and batsman went toe to toe, Aaman fighting hard for figures 3 for 62 off 10. Backed up by Omar who bowled three batsman in four balls in the final over to end with 4 for 54 off 9 and maximum bowling points.

Hoveringham 210 all out. Top effort lads.

The in form Andy Laughton and Ahmed opened the batting, steady start with some classy shots from both.

Ahmed fell in the 6th, Omar and Laughts continued steadily to 53 off 13. Laughts caught behind brought Mani and again good shots brought the target of 210 closer.

Looking set on 93 off 22, Mani and Omar fall, both caught on the boundary. Enter skipper Dave Newby and Joe Cope to steady the ship, good running and some shots took us to 125 off 29, needing 85 from 10.

After Copey fell for 16 and Tom Reilly for 1, Dan Collington came to the crease with Ahmeds bat, and what a bat, now needing 70 off 7 Collo smashes 20 from 4 balls, 6,4,6,4, bringing us back into the game.

Dan unluckily is given out caught behind, Lewis Macrae comes to the crease and runs his heart out with Newbs going well at the other end. One run too many as Lewis is run out for 1 but played a big part in the innings. 166 off 34, 44 needed from 4. Nail biting finish on the cards.

Great running from Josh Perry and shots from Newbs gave us 12 off 2 overs, 28 needed from 3 overs.

Newbs dispatches 14 from the 37th and 10 from the 38th, to set up 8 to win from the final over.

Newbs sends the first ball for to the boundary, 4 needed from 5, two singles puts Newbs back on strike. Newbs puts everything into a sweep and just clears the cow corner fielder for six, the games won with two balls to spare. What a game, what a win!!

Well done Hoveringham for a great game, thank you Aaman from staying even though you needed to leave early. And well done to every person playing today, a team effort, not 11 individuals, but a team winning, great atmosphere, laughs and support from all sides,

Without a doubt, this goes down as my favourite game of cricket in 20 years. Not only for my performance but for the amount riding on the game, the close finish and team around me. Couldn't ask for a better set of lads to be in the winning side with, despite the doubters and criticisms in recent weeks I'm happy to be 99% safe in Division B and already looking forward to developing this team next season...........

Newbs
